Creativity is the phenomenon whereby imaginative and original ideas are turned into reality.

Creativity is the cognitive ability to produce something original by offering a fresh perspective.
It is related to divergent thinking which refers to a way of solving problems with more than one approach.

Characteristics of creativity:

Guilford (1986) considered creative thinking as involving divergent thinking, which consists of four aspects such as fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration.

Let's Understand in Brief:

Fluency	Shows an ability to produce a number of figural images, and retrieve information from memory. It refers to how rapidly the person comes up with ideas. For example, list the words containing a specified letter like p, ‘pot’, ‘hop’, ‘option’ etc. (word fluency)
Flexibility	It refers to the ability to produce a large variety of ideas such as thinking of varied uses of a particular object, For example, list the different ways of using a rope, newspaper, or iron metal. It also includes activities to make objects, e.g., drawing specified objects using a set of given figures.
Originality	The number of statistically infrequent ideas; shows an ability to produce uncommon or unique responses. It is the ability to produce ideas that are unusual, statistically infrequent, and not obvious.
Elaboration	The number of added ideas; demonstrates the subject’s ability to develop and elaborate ideas. For example, what would happen if no sleep is required?

Hence, we conclude that fluency, elaboration and flexibility are characteristics of creativity.
