Maximum power theorem states that for maximum power to be transferred to the load resistance RL, RL must equal the Thevenin Equivalent resistance, i.e. RL = Rth
Calculation:
Calculating the thevenin resistance across a-b terminal,
To calculated the thevenin resistance, we have short the independent voltage source and the open the independent current source.
By doing this we get circuit as,
The 6 Ω and 12 Ω are in parallel. The combination of both is in series with 3 and 2 Ω resistance.
So, net resistance Rth = 6 II 12 + 3 + 2
= 4 + 5
= 9 Ω
