Download Solution PDFCONCEPT:
Adiabatic process:
- It is the thermodynamic process in which there is no exchange of heat and mass between the system and its surrounding during the process.
- The adiabatic process can be either reversible or irreversible.
- The essential conditions for the adiabatic process to take place:
- The system must be perfectly insulated from the surrounding.
- The process must be carried out quickly so that there is no sufficient amount of time for heat and mass transfer to take place.
- The adiabatic process equation:
⇒ PVγ = constant
Where, P = pressure of the system, V = volume of the system and γ = adiabatic index
EXPLANATION:
- In the adiabatic process, no exchange of heat between the system and the surrounding takes place.
- We know that in the adiabatic process when the compression takes place the temperature of the system rises.
- So in compression, the volume of the system will decrease and the pressure of the system increases.
- When the system does work on the surrounding, its volume increases. So here the surrounding is doing work on the system.
- Hence, option 2 is correct.
