Question
Download Solution PDFWhat does the part "Cy" as referred to in the diagram of forward gate characteristics of a thyristor represent?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFThyristor GATE Characteristics:
The figure below shows the GATE characteristics of the thyristor:
xy, ox: Minimum GATE voltage and current to trigger an SCR
Vgm, Igm: Maximum permissible GATE voltage and current
oa: Non-triggering GATE voltage
- It represents in the form of a graph between GATE voltage and GATE current.
- Here, Vg is positive GATE to cathode voltage and Ig is GATE to cathode current which is DC value.
- As the GATE - cathode circuit of the thyristor is a PN junction, its characteristics are similar to the diode.
- The GATE characteristics of thyristor are spread to two curves 1 & 2.
- Curve 1 represents the lowest voltage value that must be applied to turn-ON the SCR.
- While curve 2 gives the highest possible value of voltage that can be applied safely to the GATE circuit.
